Painting in the city: from the market in Roosendaal to Bristol

Jos Antens sets up his easel just as readily in the middle of town. With Markt Roosendaal he writes: “Always fun to paint on the market square in Roosendaal.” At the school where he teaches, he introduced urban sketching as a subject for the pupils.
Antwerp comes back often; one of his films is called “Antwerp, I like going there”. In 2026 he made a small watercolour of the Meir there and sketched in the city.
With the Aquarel Instituut België he also goes into the cities. With aquarel Lier he writes: “During the watercolour day with the Aquarel Instituut België we go out 4 times a year to paint watercolours together; we always make a few small watercolours, and after a shared meal the works are discussed.”
In 2025 he went to England: “I went to England to paint on the last day with Peter Brown aka ‘Pete the Street’.” The same film is shown with haven Bristol (Bristol harbour).
In 2026 he won the plein air competition in Vlaardingen. After that win he donated his painting of the Grote Kerk, seen from the Schoolstraat, to Museum Vlaardingen.
