Painting in nature: heath, woods and coast

Many of Jos Antens’s landscapes are close to home, around Roosendaal and just across the Belgian border: the Rucphense Heide, the Kalmthoutse Heide, the Rozenven, Horendonk. Of the Rozenven he writes: “it remains a favourite spot to paint.” With Boom nabij Horendonk (tree near Horendonk) he simply notes: “some trees you just have to paint.”
In this film he makes an oil painting on the Rucphense Heide.
Outdoors, all sorts of things happen around the easel. With Oh Dennenboom (O Christmas tree) he writes: “a fine pine tree, and then a deer came to graze, and after that another one”. And the weather joins in: one of his films from Horendonk is called “will I be home before the shower?”.
By the sea, in Katwijk, he took a masterclass in seascape painting with Roos Schuring. The film of it is shown with Katwijk aan zee.
In 2025 he painted on the south coast of England, including Durdle Door and Charmouth, a “nice little place on the south coast of England”. And he returns to the mountains: “In 2025 too I went to Zermatt to paint the Matterhorn.” One of his films is called “I like painting in Switzerland best”.
